SmartSpotter was founded in 2012 out of frustration with the lack of transparency in agreements between retailers and suppliers.  We offer technical solutions to measure compliance of these agreements and facilitate an open dialogue of their results. We have a respectable number of well-known brands and retailers amongst our customers and continue to grow both within and outside of the Netherlands. 

We started out crowdsourcing information from shop floors: thousands of Spotters make money collecting data for our clients using their smartphones. But our product portfolio is expanding. Using our expertise and experience, anything that we can develop that improves compliance of agreements within retail is considered worthy of investigating further. 

We are currently based in Naarden but will move to either Hilversum or Amsterdam within the next few months. 

What you’ll be doing 

As a Developer at SmartSpotter you’ll help ensure that both our Spotters and our clients in all countries we are active in can make use of fast, reliable and user-friendly software. You’ll work closely with our commercial and operational departments to contribute to our big, hairy, audacious goal of ensuring that all agreements between retailers and suppliers will be met. 

We strongly encourage your own initiatives and entrepreneurship. In fact, we expect you to take a proactive and innovative stance with regards to the development of our software from day one. We also expect you to join us thinking about roads we as a company should take, or new products we should build to better serve our customers. 

You’re also expected to reflect and improve upon our development processes. Experience with Scrum and automated testing are a plus. 

Our software stack is mostly based on Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL and React. We also develop our native mobile apps in-house. Experience with web frameworks similar to Rails is a must, experience with Rails a big advantage and experience with developing native iOS or Android apps a plus. 

What we’re looking for 

• You have a bachelor’s in computer science or information technology or adequate relevant working experience 

• You are ambitious and take a creative and entrepreneurial approach towards your work 

• You have experience developing web applications in Rails or similar frameworks 

• You have experience with Git, Linux, SQL, JavaScript and React

• While we offer the opportunity to work from home you are based in the Netherlands and able to be physically present in our office regularly
